Robert was Godson and protege of Sir Robert Walpole and assumed the surname Naylor, he was Canon of Winchester.
Robert inherited Herstmonceaux on the death of his half brother Francis.

Indenture 14th September 1770 - reign of George III Attested copy of lease for a year from Robert Hare to Margaret Hare Between Robert Hare Clerk of The Vatch Buckinghamshire (eldest son and heir of Francis late Lord Bishop of Chichester, and grandson of Joseph Alston late of New House Suffolk Esquire deceased) and Margaret Hare now of the parish of Saint Martin in the Fields Middlesex widow. In consideration of 5 shillings paid by Margaret Hare to Robert Hare who hath bargained and sold unto Margaret Hare a messuage Mascals in Elmset Suffolk and lands in Hintlesham and Aldham some of which adjoins the tenure of John Heningall in occupation of John Vincent let to him and his tenants at rent of £145 per year Also the messuage Quicks in Edwardston Suffolk and lands in Great Wardingfield aka Great Waldingfield and Little Wardingfield aka Little Waldingfield some of which adjoins the tenure of Solomon Todd in occupation of Robert Scott and tenants let at rent of £45 per year And the messuage the Priory as freehold and lands lying in Edwardstone. Lands of Great and Little Wardingfield/Waldingfield some of which adjoins the tenure or occupation of George Butcher and tenants and let at rent of £52.10.0 shillings per year. Tithes and portions of tithes arising or coming from Little Ward/Waldingfield And lands in the tenure or occupation of Robert Scott for rent of £1.6.8 per year and cottage at £1.10.0 And all other messuages, cottages, and lands etc in Elmset, Hintlesham, Aldham, Edwardston, Great and Little War/Waldingfield etc wherein the said Robert Hare has an interest. 2. Release: Robert Hare to Margaret Hare, 15 Sep 1770. This Release Indenture relates to the lease between Robert Hare and his mother Margaret dated 14 Sep 1770, summarised above. As page 3 of this MSS is missing it has not been transcribed.
The lease and release was the most popular and widespread way to record simple sales of property from the seventeenth century up to 1845. The lease and release format was also used to convey property for the purposes of mortgages and settlements. The 'lease' and the 'release' are two separate documents.
Robert married Sarah SELMAN [3538] [MRIN: 1209], daughter of Lister SELMAN Esq of Chalfont St Peters [3539] and Unknown.
Robert next married Henrietta HENCKELL [3540] [MRIN: 1211].
